The Gear Up! Project

(5 1/2" x 2 3/4")

We give out free stickers like the one above to help encourage people to wear proper protective gear all the time.

Why we do this?

Most people don't wear full protective gear, and this is what happens to them when they get in an accident on a motorcycle or scooter:

Simply put, when you get into an accident wearing an average amount of gear you're going to end up in the hospital. Only 3.1% of people in reported accidents didn't neet hospital treatment. According to the MAIDS study 85.3% of the people in accidents on powered two wheel vehicles needed hospital treatment. 10.8% of people died as a result of their accident.

The Survey Results Are Up! If you haven't done so already, please take a minute to fill out our ongoing survey about your choices in gear. If you have, then check out the results!

What's the Gear Up! project?

It's pretty simple really. Our goal is three fold: to encourage riders to actively think about what it will take to keep them safe in case of an accident, convince people that you can wear the right gear and still look cool, and educate riders on what safety features to look for when choosing gear. While this site is still pretty minimal at the moment we'll be adding educational materials soon.

How can I help?

The most important thing you can do is talk with all your motorcycling and scootering friends about why it's important to wear good gear and why it needs to be worn all the time. That's why we made the sticker; to get people talking. We include a handout about what to look for when buying gear (PDF) with every batch of stickers. Please don't hesitate to print out more copies for the riders in your area. Educate yourself about good gear so that you can help keep your friends safe.
